Javier Auyero

Javier Auyero is the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long in Latin American Sociology at the University of Texas-Austin. His main areas of research, writing and teaching are poverty and marginality, political ethnography, and urban violence. He is the author of several books, among the Poor People’s Politics and Patients of the State. With Débora Swistun, he co-authored Flammable. Environmental Suffering in an Argentine Shantytown. And with María Fernanda Berti he co-authored the forthcoming In Harm’s Way. The Uses and Forms of Interpersonal Violence at the Urban Margins.
